The Italian name of Sonia Gandhi is Antonia Edvige Albina Maino. She is an Italian-born Indian politician and former president of the Indian National Congress party. Sonia Gandhi belongs to the third generation of the Nehru-Gandhi family. She was born in Lusiana, Veneto region of Italy on 9 December 1946.
Sonia Gandhi got married in 1968 and was the wife of the former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. She had to join politics in 1997 amidst constant requests from Congress party members after the death of her husband Rajiv Gandhi, who died in 1991. Sonia Gandhi was born on 9 December 1946 in Contrada Miani at Lusiana. She was a Roman Catholic and a political and social worker before joining politics. Her place of birth is a small village about 30 km from Vicenza, Veneto in Italy, where the Mianos lived for generations.
She spent her adolescence in Orbassano town near Turin. Stefano Miano and Paola Miano were the names of her parents. Her father managed a construction business and built their house himself. She went to a Catholic school in Orbassano and after which she proceeded to the city of Cambridge in 1964 to study English in a school under the Bell Education Trust.
